"Artful Spaces Inspire Children To Play, Imagine & Dream" Contra
Costa Times – East Bay Home & Design, Jan/Feb. 2005
By Cameron Sullivan Children’s
two most cherished spaces are their bedrooms – wher they
spend
most of their days playing, reading or sleeping – and the
outdoors, where they left off steam. Ideally those spaces
should
provide a comforting environment as well as stimulate creativity and
imagination. With the unique workmanship of artists,
storybook
settings, fantasy environments and other playful scenes are brought to
life inside a child’s room and out in the backyard, inspiring
kids to imagine a world outside their own.
Pleasanton artist Victoria Miraglio paints what she calls “children’s fantasy rooms,” which range from delicate flower gardens to elaborate safari scenes. “Most parents have an idea of what they’d want for the child’s room,” she said. But she recommends parents choose a palette of four or more colors to allow for changes in bedding and decorative elements as the child grows. “That way they can bring other things into the room to make it versatile, or use furniture or accessories they already have.” For a little boy in Pleasanton, Miraglio painted a mural with a heartwarming depiction of a wildlife scene. Images of grizzly bears and pine trees filled the walls and squirrels scurried over the headboard of the bed. ![]() Photo Caption: Muralist Victoria Miraglio brings wildlife and natural element to this child’s bedroom and bathroom.
